Project Title: Promoting Cultural Restoration and Preservation of Tangible and Intangible Culture and Artefacts in Somaliland

Project Objectives: This project seeks to address three key gaps in the tangible and intangible creative cultural goods: (i) the continuous loss of culture among the young generation due to the lack of skills, knowledge and sharing limitations, (ii) rural-urban migration leads to loss of creative and cultural goods and services, and (iii) the fear of losing artefacts due to the lack of refining and recording.
Background
The project is expected to be implemented in 24 months with various key actions expected to be undertaken throughout the project period in Burao and Erigavo.
Staff recruitment is anticipated to be conducted in the first month in Burao followed immediately by publicity of the project, engagement with various actors and stakeholders and existing local structures, beneficiary selection, and set up of the project steering committee in the second month.
Other activities to be undertaken throughout the project include capacity building to youth on cultural preservation and mentorship, provision of avenues for cultural learning in the Burao district, collection and refining of intangible cultural heritage, digitalization of collected intangible cultural heritage, project midterm evaluations, staff capacity building, project evaluation and finally project auditing.
Key outputs of the project are:
- Youth empowered on cultural preservation and mentorship;
- Tangible and Intangible cultural heritage is collected and refined;
- Tangible and Intangible cultural heritage is digitized
- New markets for Somaliland’s tangible and intangible cultural and natural heritage are sourced and found;
