Background
This is a four-year project funded by Amplify Change UK. The implementation of the project commenced in October 2016 and came to term in March 2020. The overall objective of the project was to increase community support toward educating youth on Gender-based violence and sexual reproductive health rights.
During the one and half years, the project has reached more than 16,700 direct beneficiaries including men, women, girls, and boys in two IDPs in Burao District. SRHR education remains a taboo and sensitive issue in Somaliland.
This project was the first kind that has ever been implemented in the region. During its implementation period, the project has enabled parents and community leaders including traditional leaders and religious leaders to have continuous discussions on the issues of SRHR, forced and early marriage through culturally acceptable procedures.
