Background
Entrenching community mechanisms to mitigate SGBV/FGM project primarily addresses harmful practices and violence against women and girls. This project funded by ISF and implemented by SOYDAVO focuses on the following forms of violence: female genital mutilation, early marriage, domestic/intimate partner violence, and non-partner violence.
The project will run from 2022 – 2025 in the Togdheer and Sanaag regions of Somaliland by addressing the root causes of SGBV/FGM-C and harmful practices against women and girls in the Togdheer and Sanaag Regions of Somaliland.
The project’s implementation strategy will target religious and traditional leaders, girls, men, boys, parents, health professionals, and other duty-bearers in the Erigavo and Burao Districts of the Togdheer and Sanaag regions, as well as specific locations within these districts, which have the highest rates of SGBV and FGM in the Sanaag and Togdheer regions. The initiative would especially target five internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Togdheer Burao and three districts in Sanaag Erigavo.
The project seeks to mobilize the collective efforts of religious and traditional leaders, girls, men, boys, parents, health professionals, Self Help Groups (SHGs), and other duty-bearers. The action intends to roll out specific target group actions aimed at empowering the community to take an active role and ownership of the different interventions, thus deepening the communities’ involvement in strengthening mechanisms to reduce the prevalence of SGBV/FGM-C.
