The Human Trafficking Victim Assistance and Travails Mitigation Project (HTVATM)

Project Location: Six regions of Somaliland
Project Period: 2019-2020
Project Objectives: To identify, support and assist victims of human trafficking with close collaboration with the mandated agencies and government offices in Somaliland.

Background

This is a one-year project funded by the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime – UNODC. The project commenced in May 2019 and will come to an end in May 2020. The project was implemented in all six Somaliland regions.

The overall objective of the project is to sustain a significant reduction in human trafficking in Somaliland through a holistic approach involving community members, and national and district government officials.

The project is providing support to victims of human trafficking through the provision of services including psychosocial counseling, legal assistance, medical care, and temporary housing services.

Community-wide awareness sessions aimed to promote awareness raising on human trafficking are and will be conducted in target project areas through public gatherings, radio stations, and anti-human trafficking campaigns.

Complete referral mechanisms are established to support the victims of human trafficking with the support of the government and community members in target project areas.

There is also a 24/7 hotline number that was disseminated to all community members who live in the IDPs and the areas considered as a high risk of human trafficking.
