Who We Are?

Somaliland Youth Development and Voluntary Organization (SOYDAVO) is a local non- governmental organization (LNGO) with its headquarters in the city of Burao, Somaliland, and regional sub-offices in Hargeisa and Erigavo. SOYDAVO was registered in June 2006.

SOYDAVO is originally a youth-based organization and has retained throughout its years of existence the identity of promoting youth empowerment. SOYDAVO staff including the executive team is under 35 years old and comprised of both women and men as SOYDAVO enforces a strict gender equality policy into our recruitment and implementation process.

Based on the wide-range of limitations that Somalia and Somaliland faces, SOYDAVO is engaged in multi-sector activities such as education for vulnerable groups, economic development and livelihood support, protection of child and women’s rights, peace-building and reconciliation, psychosocial recovery and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities and culture and society cohesion promotions. 

The main target groups of the organization include vulnerable youth, women and children coming from
disadvantaged backgrounds such as IDP camps, nomad people and ex-militia. 

SOYDAVO also works closely with religious and clan leaders as well as actors that facilitate greater access to their communities.
Other beneficiaries of SOYDAVO are nongovernmental organizations including community-based, government departments, private companies and training institutions.

To achieve a society where children, women and youth are able to live their lives in peace and have their rights safeguarded in order to attain better social, political, economic, education and health standards.

SOYDAVO is committed to working with human dignity, self-development, and to make people promoters of their own growth for women, youth and children through mobilization of their own potential and by implementing projects that meet their needs for education, health, skill training, income generation, sports and self-empowerment.
