Project Objectives: To improve learning outcomes for form four female secondary students in Burao, Somaliland by providing supplementary classes in the key curriculum of science subjects and mathematics.

Background

SOYDAVO and Education & Skills Development Group (ESDEG) are working together on a two-year Girls’ Education project funded by UKAID/DFID in the UK. The project aimed to improve the learning outcome of 120 from 4 female students in governmental secondary schools in the Burco district.

It provides them with two years of supplementary learning classes, and it particularly focuses on subjects of mathematics and science.

The project further aims to create learning opportunities for girls, primarily by ensuring participation in both school and national exams and conducting awareness raising and advocacy so community members and regional policymakers are more willing to tackle issues of girls’ secondary education.

Sixty students are the beneficiaries of the first year of the program, and another 60 students will be benefiting in the next year.
