Hargeisa, Somaliland – In response to the escalating climate crisis that demands bold and coordinated action, young people in Somaliland are stepping up as leaders in the fight for climate justice. As part of the preparations for the upcoming Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), Conference of Youth (COY), COP30, and the Nairobi Summer School in Climate Justice Cohort 5, the Somaliland Youth Development and Voluntary Organization (SOYDAVO) successfully organized a two-day Climate Activists Boot Camp from 6–7 August 2025 at Dhoolayre Hotel, Hargeisa.
The Boot Camp was designed to strengthen the capacity of young climate leaders to meaningfully participate in climate negotiations, advocacy campaigns, and community-driven climate solutions. It also served as a key platform to prepare youth delegates and representatives for active involvement in national, regional, and global climate processes.
Through interactive training sessions, knowledge-sharing, and practical exercises, participants deepened their understanding of climate diplomacy, advocacy strategies, and locally-led adaptation initiatives. These skills are expected to enable them to contribute effectively to policy dialogues while leading impactful grassroots actions in their communities.
The event brought together over 25 young male and female participants from diverse backgrounds and educational levels. A strong focus was placed on climate activists, leaders of youth-led organizations, and delegates preparing to represent Somaliland at major upcoming climate platforms.
SOYDAVO’s initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to empowering youth as change-makers, ensuring they are well-equipped to address climate challenges and drive sustainable solutions for the future of Somaliland.
