Press Release: Girls Education Project Launching Ceremony

The overall objective of the project is to support Somaliland’s Form Four Secondary School Girls who are preparing to sit for their final year of secondary Education in Somaliland. The project is being implemented in the Togdheer region of Somaliland. The project will support 120 girls by engaging extra curriculum afternoon teaching classes that will improve the girl’s knowledge in Science and Mathematics subjects. The project has a duration of 24 months, starting from 1st February 2019 until February 2021.

The project launching event was opened by the Chairperson of SOYDAVO and the Regional Education Officer of Togdheer region Mr Mohamoud Hassan Ainashe. The Chairperson of SOYDAVO highlighted the significance of this project for the public schools and the Togdheer community at large. He reminded that, by implementing this project in Burao, the stakeholders have committed to working together to ensure the project achieves its intended objectives – which is to help the form four secondary students in the public schools get the opportunity to upgrade their knowledge in the science and mathematics subjects. Mr Mohamed Hussein has finally thanked the UKAID/DFID for funding the project.
The Regional Education Officer Mr Ainashe has stressed the importance of the project for the Public Schools in Burao District. Mr Ainashe ensured his support to SOYDAVO and to the public schools with the aim to achieve the project objectives. Mr Ainashe has also expressed his gratitude to the UK Aid/DFID and ESDEG for funding this project through SOYDAVO. Rashid Farah from the local government has also made his remarks by encouraging the students to take the benefit of this golden opportunity. He has also thanked UKAID/DFID for funding the project.
Finally, the headmasters of 5 Public Schools in Burao who were present in the event have also made their remarks at the event. The headmasters have committed to providing space and classrooms for the students. They have stressed their support for the project and promised to contribute to the success of this project.
